HARMAN Takes Home Three CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Honors

04-January-2012

STAMFORD, CT – HARMAN International Industries has been named an International CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for three distinct audio products: Harman Kardon SB 30, JBL MS-2, and JBL MS-A1004. Products entered in this prestigious CES program are judged by a panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting-edge consumer electronics products across 32 categories.

The Harman Kardon SB 30 home theater soundbar system features an innovative speaker array, new digital  signal processing technology (DSP) and a wireless subwoofer to create a breakthrough surround-sound experience from an all-in-one stereo system  that connects directly to an HDTV, DVD, Blu-ray Disc™ player or game console. The soundbar uses exclusive HARMAN Wave surround-mode technology to deliver a surround-sound experience that can be adjusted for big or small rooms.

The JBL MS-2 is a pocket-sized digital sound processor that enhances sound from portable music players through a car’s existing speaker setup. The one-of-a-kind MS-2 uses digital signal processing to optimize system performance for a car’s unique acoustic characteristics – such as a vehicle’s interior space and type of speakers – and  DSP time correction to ensure that the richer, more dynamic sounds reach your ears simultaneously, creating a coherent and detailed soundscape.

The JBL MS-A1004 is part of the MS Series of component speakers and subwoofers designed to bring a powerful audio to your car. The MS-A1004 is a compact digital signal processing, four-channel amplifier that provides up to 400 watts of power. It features onboard displays for easy installation and configuration.

“We are dedicated to developing and delivering products that showcase cutting-edge innovations and meet consumers’ modern needs,” said Sachin Lawande, executive vice president and co-president of HARMAN’s Lifestyle and Infotainment divisions. “We are thrilled to see three of our products selected for inclusion in this esteemed collection from leading electronics manufacturers.”

The prestigious Innovations Design and Engineering Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association, the producer of the International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow, and  have been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976. The Best of Innovations honor is awarded to the products with the highest judges’ scores and will be featured in the Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase at the 2012 International CES.

The Harman Kardon SB 30, JBL MS-2 and JBL MS-A1004 will be on display at HARMAN’s booth (#12438) at the 2012 International CES, which runs January 10 – 13, 2012, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Honorees will also be displayed at CES Unveiled: The Official Press Event of the International CES from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 8 in the Venetian Ballroom of the Venetian.

The Innovations entries are judged based on the following criteria:

·         Engineering qualities, based on technical specs and materials used

·         Aesthetic and design qualities

·         The product’s intended use/function and user value

·         Unique/novel features that consumers would find attractive

·        How the design and innovation of the product compares to other products in the marketplace

Products chosen as an Innovations honoree reflect innovative design and engineering of the entries. Examples may include the first time various technologies are combined in a single product or dramatic enhancements to previous product designs.
