STAMFORD, CT – Harman International Industries, Incorporated (NYSE: HAR) announced today that it will serve as an official sponsor of the 51st GRAMMY® Awards, to be held on February 8, 2009. The annual gala event, presented by The Recording Academy®, honors distinguished creative and technical music makers -- from vocalists, songwriters, and instrumentalists to producers, engineers, and arrangers -- whose works were released during the 2008 recording year. The awards will be broadcast live from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles and aired on CBS at 8pm ET/PT
“This partnership is an exciting opportunity to salute the outstanding artists and technical people whose talents bring out the best in Harman systems,” said Dinesh C. Paliwal, Chairman and CEO of Harman International. “We are privileged to play an important role both in recording great music and delivering it in high-fidelity to admiring audiences and consumers around the world, and we are proud to participate in this milestone GRAMMY event.”
As the Official Sound Partner for the GRAMMY event, Harman will present a video salute to the artists and audio technologies that contribute to modern recorded music, displayed on the huge outdoor screens within the Nokia Plaza at AEG Live. The Company will also sponsor The Recording Academy/Clive Davis Pre-GRAMMY Gala, where the legendary music executive -- who has managed several prominent record labels and has himself earned three GRAMMY Awards -- will be honored with the prestigious GRAMMY Salute to Industry Icon award. The Company is also proud to be a participating sponsor at the official GRAMMY Viewing Parties which will be held throughout Hard Rock Café locations across the country. Harman’s official sponsorship also supports two other important GRAMMY week events, including the annual MusiCares® Person of the Year Tribute which will honor iconic musician Neil Diamond and the official GRAMMY Celebration after-party.
The upcoming event continues a long relationship between Harman International and the professional audio, recording and broadcast communities. The Company’s microphones, amplifiers, mixing consoles, speakers and related products are used by many touring artists and are installed at leading performance venues worldwide. Harman recently provided the audio systems for a new interactive GRAMMY Museum which opened during December in Los Angeles, and the company’s systems are frequently used by the professional audio installation companies who support the awards ceremony and similar events.
