QNX Software Systems, the global leader in middleware, operating systems, and development tools for the in-car telematics and infotainment market, today announced it has donated one million dollars in software to the Connected Vehicle Proving Center (CVPC) to support research in automotive computing. Building on its OEM Innovation Labs (OIL) program, which provides leading-edge technology to the advanced design centers of automotive manufacturers worldwide, QNX has donated copies of its industry-leading QNX(R) Neutrino(R) RTOS, QNX Momentics(R) Tool Suite, QNX Aviage(R) Multimedia Suite, and QNX Aviage HMI Player to the CVPC.
The CVPC, seed funded from a $3.1 million grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corp.'s 21st Century Jobs Fund, will use the donation from QNX Software Systems to assist in its research, development, and testing under the auspices of the non-profit Center for Automotive Research (CAR). The CVPC offers facilities for the development, testing, and evaluation of connected vehicle technologies designed to enhance vehicular wireless communications and applications for improved safety, mobility, and convenience.
"The QNX software tools contributed will make the center's wireless vehicular applications development capabilities more comprehensive, end-to-end," said Udi Naamani, general manager of the CVPC. "The center's development-related offerings and its developer's program provide an important support to the industry for moving connected vehicle technologies ahead."
QNX joins the list of industry leaders contributing to the CVPC, which include Aeris, Delphi Automotive Systems, Econolite, Motorola, Navteq, Road America, and others.
