Harman Pro Audio: The Magic Behind the GRAMMY® Sound

Big crowds need big sound, and no audience is more demanding than the National Academy of Arts and Sciences and its GRAMMY guests.  Our AKG, Crown, JBL and other brands are teaming up to provide sound reinforcement at Los Angeles' STAPLES Center that befits the stars on stage.  In addition to the GRAMMYs, Harman audio systems routinely perform at such high-profile events as the Academy Awards, Country Music Awards, the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and more!

Sound contractor ATK/Audiotek is providing the main sound reinforcement system for this year's GRAMMY ceremony and telecast and the team has ample Harman in its kit.

The main system includes a total of 70 JBL VERTEC VT4889 fullsize line array elements, with 48 deployed as main left/center/right suspended arrays and signal-delayed arrays farther back in the venue. There are twin six-box subwoofer clusters suspended overhead, using JBL’s VT4880A ultra-long excursion arrayable subwoofer.

Also in use are 16 JBL VT4887 compact line array elements in use for auxiliary fill arrays, and 12 JBL VRX932LA compact constant-curvature speaker boxes for VIP frontfill positions. JBL’s award-winning LSR6300 studio monitors are installed for the “TV mix room” backstage at the event.

ATK’s backstage foldback (stage monitoring) system is powered by Crown Macrotech Series MA-1200 and MA-3600 power amplifiers. In addition, the extensive microphone complement for the event includes C214 and C747 mics from AKG.  Watch for a full post-event report from ATK/Audiotek!
