Richard Sorota Appointed President Of Harman Consumer Division

WASHINGTON, D.C. December 17, 2007 - Harman International Industries, Incorporated (NYSE: HAR) announced today that Richard S. Sorota will join the company as President, Harman Consumer Division and member of the Group Executive Committee, effective January 21, 2008.  He succeeds Ms. Gina Harman who announced earlier that she has accepted an executive position with a leading micro finance lending organization.

Mr. Sorota is a veteran of more than 20 years in the consumer products industry, including his current role as a Senior Vice President and General Manager for The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company (NYSE:SMG) -- the world's largest provider of consumer products for lawn and garden care.  Previously, Mr. Sorota held a series of senior management positions at Royal Phillips Electronics, The Proctor & Gamble Company, and General Electric Company.  He holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics from the University of Vermont and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Northwestern University.
