More recently, we have introduced advanced technologies such as augmented navigations, which blends live-motion video with graphics to provide drivers with a clearer understanding of the road ahead and visual cues for complex intersections. At CES 2015, HARMAN introduced the first connected navigation solution based on the Navigation Data Standard that incrementally updates map data in the field. This over-the-air (OTA) incremental update capability is the first in the industry that ensures map data is always up-to-date. Incremental updates of map data for rich navigation systems are critical to keep vehicle infotainment systems current in the field.

HARMAN also supports the latest in smartphone connectivity such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Baidu’s CarLife solution for the Chinese market, and MirrorLink. Merging these solutions with HARMAN’s powerful embedded solutions provides automakers with flexibility to introduce connectivity features with attractive feature-to-cost ratios, with a range of options that meet virtually all global market-specific requirements.

Telematics describes a wide range of automotive connectivity solutions that leverage a telematics control unit (TCU) incorporating some form of cellular communication to create an automatic system. The global telematics market is poised to grow exponentially in the future, with approximately 104 million new cars expected to have some form of connectivity by 2025.

We begin by keeping drivers intimately aware of their surrounds with rear-view and wide-angle camera applications. Virtual reality modeling is then blended with the camera images, to create a full surround view of the vehicle from any angle for safer driving and parking efficiency.

HARMAN’s system supports a HTML5-based application environment with enhanced security delivered through hypervisor-based domain separation.
