Our embedded infotainment solutions offer complete information, entertainment and communications capabilities – including 3D and augmented navigation, multimedia support and smart apps for device integration, high speed connectivity, intuitive and multi-modal user interfaces, and a new generation of automotive cloud services.

HARMAN success in the embedded infotainment market is a testament to its platform-based approach to design and engineering. Modular and scalable, HARMAN’s infotainment platforms address the full spectrum of vehicles from premium to entry.

HARMAN’s solutions for the premium segment includes next-generation navigation, entertainment, driver assistance and service functions. The company offers a number of first-to-market technologies such as augmented navigation, which blends live-motion video with graphics to provide drivers with a clearer understanding of the road ahead and visual cues for complex intersections. HARMAN’s embedded infotainment solutions integrate industry-leading over-the-air (OTA) map and software update features, which seamlessly deliver infotainment firmware and map content updates to in-vehicle navigation systems. Other innovations include “sensor fusion” to collect and aggregate camera, sensor and on-board diagnostics (OBD) data and integrates it with both on-board and off-board navigation systems for more accurate and intelligent routing and safety features. And HARMAN’s deep competence in both software and hardware design means its computing platforms can drive not only navigation and “center stack” functions but also the instrument cluster, for a more integrated approach to display and driver information systems such as head-up displays and gesture-based controls.

More recently, we have introduced advanced technologies such as augmented navigations, which blends live-motion video with graphics to provide drivers with a clearer understanding of the road ahead and visual cues for complex intersections. At CES 2015, HARMAN introduced the first connected navigation solution based on the Navigation Data Standard that incrementally updates map data in the field. This over-the-air (OTA) incremental update capability is the first in the industry that ensures map data is always up-to-date. Incremental updates of map data for rich navigation systems are critical to keep vehicle infotainment systems current in the field.

HARMAN also supports the latest in smartphone connectivity such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Baidu’s CarLife solution for the Chinese market, and MirrorLink. Merging these solutions with HARMAN’s powerful embedded solutions provides automakers with flexibility to introduce connectivity features with attractive feature-to-cost ratios, with a range of options that meet virtually all global market-specific requirements.

HARMAN mobile connectivity solutions set the industry standard for keeping drivers and passengers in touch with the world around them.

Telematics describes a wide range of automotive connectivity solutions that leverage a telematics control unit (TCU) incorporating some form of cellular communication to create an automatic system. The global telematics market is poised to grow exponentially in the future, with approximately 104 million new cars expected to have some form of connectivity by 2025.

HARMAN’s telematics offerings allow automakers to build intelligence and connectivity directly into the car, supporting a number of applications including safety and security, information and navigation, entertainment, and vehicle diagnostics. Some specific examples include eCall and roadside assistance, stolen vehicle tracking (SVT), vehicle diagnostics, connected navigation and infotainment, as well as convenience applications.

HARMAN embedded telematics modules take advantage of the latest 4G/LTE technology, along with in-car Wi-Fi UpnP, LLNA, GNSS, USB, and similar high-bandwidth communications standards.

Leveraging its more than 60 years of automotive expertise, HARMAN is developing a complete range of connected safety offerings that help drivers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.

We begin by keeping drivers intimately aware of their surrounds with rear-view and wide-angle camera applications. Virtual reality modeling is then blended with the camera images, to create a full surround view of the vehicle from any angle for safer driving and parking efficiency.

HARMAN also offers solutions to leverage image data captured by a vehicle camera or smartphone with computer vision algorithms to provide collision and lane departure warnings, alerting the operator to actual or impending hazards.

HARMAN is launching its Connected Safety platform, that integrates vision ADAS with Electronic Horizon and V2X technologies to offer the most advanced and comprehensive active safety solution in the industry. This solution enables HARMAN to offer dedicated active safety devices or integrate the safety features in our infotainment platform offerings using its virtualization capability. It offers the most advanced and comprehensive active safety solution in the industry.

HARMAN is investing in the development of secure connected car systems, and the resulting outcome is the next-generation system architecture that leverages the latest developments in the field of silicon and software to improve the level of system security against cyber threats.

HARMAN’s premium embedded infotainment solution directly addresses industry car hacking and cyber-attack concerns for connected vehicles. HARMAN’s system supports a HTML5-based application environment with enhanced security delivered through hypervisor-based domain separation. Critical vehicle functions are protected from errant or malicious software for "automotive grade" robustness.

HARMAN’s hyper-visor technology solutions separate and isolate the different software domains within the infotainment system. This isolation adds another layer of security on top of the network-level security that is used in current connected devices. Virtualization ensures that any threat that has managed to pass through network security technology will still not be able to affect the critical vehicle functions that are running in a separate domain.

The HARMAN virtualization solution is custom-designed to work with the specific use cases of automotive infotainment systems. It offers the best combination of system performance while keeping critical functions and resources isolated within the system. Furthermore, HARMAN’s system architecture supports the latest car apps and platforms, such as Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, while protecting the integrity of the infotainment system against cyber security threats.
