While the driver follows the route using the navigation device, the front-seat passenger can read books online, while the back seat passengers can watch the latest cinema releases. All functions are available at the press of a button as and when needed – current traffic reports for the journey, the latest stock market news, the football results, etc.
Although this might sound like something from a science fiction novel, it is already a reality to a certain extent at HARMAN Automotive Division. Customers are demanding more and more in-car functionality, flexibility and state-of-the-art features, as well as maximum safety and minimum energy consumption. The Internet generation wants to be “connected” at all times and everywhere and wants to be able to bring its own individual content into the vehicle. And this applies in every vehicle class. Energy efficiency is also a must. These are the areas we are working on at present and in some cases we have already come up with the right production-ready solutions.
“New, ground-breaking products enable us to open up completely new communication options for the driver that would have been inconceivable just a few years ago,” emphasizes Sachin Lawande, Co-President, HARMAN Automotive Division, describing the aims of the company.
