RIDING HIGH AT CES® LAS VEGAS

Imagine the sight of an automobile flying high above the streets of Las Vegas. That’s the scene that greeted early visitors to the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show as Harman Becker® Automotive Systems prepared to capture the undivided attention of its automotive clients during January.

A Toyota Prius was hoisted three stories and placed in the Palms Hotel recording studio to serve as the showpiece in Harman’s demonstration of its latest automotive-audio and -infotainment technologies. Supplemented by interactive kiosks and multimedia presentations, the event allowed Harman Becker to share its latest audio-performance technologies -- including high-efficiency speakers and head-tracking surround sound headphones.

An additional surprise for clients was the participation of several VIP musical guests in a demonstration of a new suite of multichannel-surround-sound-processing tools for studio editing and mastering. Don Felder, formerly of the Eagles, used his classic "Hotel California" guitar work to demonstrate how these surround-sound processing tools are used in recording and layering of guitar tracks. Lou Gramm from Foreigner, Jack Blades of NightRanger, and Jeff Carlisi of .38 Special joined Don in the presentation.

Following the demonstrations, Harman’s automotive guests were invited to attend a VIP hospitality event in the hotel’s Hardwood Suite. The highlight of this session was an all-star concert by the four visiting artists, who together performed each artist's most popular song.
