2014 was the year HARMAN won our 3rd Grammy. Then, in 2015, we won the Microsoft Partner of the Year award for our Intelligent Systems & Services (IoT). More awards came in 2017, when we were given nine CES Awards for product innovation. The biggest news was when ​HARMAN was acquired by Samsung in March, 2017.

Three JBL engineers won Academy Awards in 2002. Then in 2004, HARMAN was the first company to enable Bluetooth wireless connectivity in a car.

In 1998, HARMAN made road trips even easier when we created the first combination radio, CD and navigation system. Also, in 1999 the HK SoundSticks systems debuted in the MoMA.

HARMAN’s technology changed the world a few times this decade. In 1983, George Lucas selected JBL to develop the first THX licensed theater audio system. Then, JBL premiered the first OEM branded car audio system in a Lincoln Town Car in 1984. Finally, in 1989 we created the DigiTech Whammy, the first foot-controlled pitch shifting guitar pedal.

Woodstock was where quite a few firsts happened. But in 1969, our company, JBL, powered that first historic concert.

Here, we really got going. In 1953, Harman Kardon introduced the world to the FM tuner. Then, in 1956, Sidney Harman bought out Bernard Kardon and HARMAN International was created.

This was the beginning of the work that we still do today. In 1948, we created the first ever in-car radio.

Our innovations were recognized early. In 1937, MGM-Lansing won the first of two Academy Awards for their unique sound systems.

In 1928, the world’s first talking movie featured HD loudspeakers by Lansing — the company that would eventually become HARMAN.
