This Additional Notice applies to you if you are a resident of California and the privacy laws in California apply to HARMAN's processing of your Personal Information.

This Additional Notice supplements HARMAN's Privacy Notice. The disclosures in the Privacy Notice also apply to you unless otherwise noted herein.

Notice at Collection for California Residents​

HARMAN collects the Personal Information listed here , for the purposes listed here, and retains it for the period described here . We may “sell" or “share" your information as California law defines those terms.  We do not collect or process Sensitive Personal Information for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you. To the extent you provide HARMAN with Personal Information about other California residents, you are responsible for providing this notice to them.

Selling and Sharing Personal In formation

We do not “sell" your Personal Information in the traditional ways, but we do “sell" and “share" Personal Information for targeted advertising purposes. We do this to analyze and optimize our services, personalize your online experience, provide advertisements that are more relevant to you, and for statistical research and analytics.

In the last 12 months, we have disclosed the following categories of Personal Information to Advertising Platforms for the purposes described above: Identifiers, Geolocation Information, and Internet or Other Electronic Network Activity Information.

We do not intend sell or disclose children's Personal Information for targeted advertising purposes, and we have no actual knowledge of doing so.

Your California Privacy Rights

You may request to exercise the following rights with respect to the Personal Information that HARMAN maintains:

  • Right to Know: You may request to know:
    • The categories and specific pieces of Personal Information that HARMAN has collected about them;

    • The categories of sources from which HARMAN collected the Personal Information;

    • The categories of Personal Information that HARMAN sold or disclosed to a third party (other than a service provider) for a business purpose and the categories of recipients of that information; and

    • The business purposes for HARMAN's collection, use, disclosure, or sale of the Personal Information. 

  • Right To Delete: You may request to delete the Personal Information that HARMAN has collected from you.

  • Right To Correct: You may request to correct inaccurate Personal Information that HARMAN maintains about you.

  • Right To Opt Out of Sale and Sharing: You may request to opt out of the sale of your Personal Information and the sharing of their Personal Information for targeted advertising purposes. ​

Exercising Your California Privacy Rights​

You can exercise these rights in the either of the following ways:

HARMAN will respond to requests in accordance with applicable law.

You may also exercise your right to opt out through a browser setting or extension to communicate your preference to automatically opt out of selling and sharing of your Personal Information. We honor your right to opt out of the sale and sharing of your Personal Information as signaled by a universal opt-out signal or Global Privacy Control (“GPC").  To enable GPC, you can visit the Global Privacy Control page at https://globalprivacycontrol.org. If you download a supported browser or extension and exercise your privacy rights with GPC, we will turn off certain third-party cookies on the applicable Site after the Site detects a GPC signal. However, if you visit a Site from a different device or from a different browser on the same device, you will need to opt out or use an opt-out preference signal for that browser and/or device.

Verifying Your Identity

In some cases, we will need to verify the identity of the individual submitting the request. We will do this by:

  • Step 1:  HARMAN will send an email to the email address that you provided as part of an account creation or other registration process. Please read through this email, complete the verification criteria, and once complete, send a reply email back to HARMAN. The required criteria are described below (unless otherwise noted in the email):
    • In the email we will ask you to reply with at least two pieces of information to verify your identity, dependent on the nature of your request and the sensitivity of the information that is the subject of your request.
    • Reply to the email and provide us with at least two (and in some cases three) pieces of information, HARMAN will match the information you provide to the information that HARMAN already maintains about you. HARMAN will only use the information you provide for the purpose of verifying your identity.
    • Confirm our summary of the actions you want us to take (e.g., “delete my Personal Information").
    • Send your reply email back to the original sender with the above information to verify your identity.

If you submit a request and HARMAN does not have an email address for you, we will perform the steps listed above via phone.

  • Step 2: After receiving the information above and confirming your identity, we will take action to review the request. If we cannot verify your identity to a sufficient level of certainty to respond to your request, we will let you know promptly and explain why we will be unable to fulfill your request.

If an agent submits a request on your behalf, we may verify both your and your agent's identity and request a signed document from you that authorizes your agent to make the request on your behalf. To protect your Personal Information, we reserve the right to deny a request from an agent that does not submit proof that you have authorized them to act on their behalf.

HARMAN's Non-Discrimination Policy

You have the right not to be subject to discriminatory treatment by HARMAN for exercising your privacy rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and HARMAN will not discriminate on that basis. However, HARMAN may charge you a different price or rate or provide a different level or quality of goods or services if the difference is reasonably related to the value provided to you. If HARMAN does so, it will provide you with any legally required notice.

Shine the Light

California residents who use a Site may request that we provide certain information regarding HARMAN's disclosure of your Personal Information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. You can make such a request by e-mail to privacy@harman.com with the subject line “CA Shine the Light."

Financial Incentives

We may offer limited-time giveaways, promotions, or similar programs or benefits.  In exchange for your participation in these programs or benefits, you may be offered a financial incentive, such as a product or a discount. The Personal Information we collect depends on the specific program or benefit, but is likely to include: Identifiers, Commercial Information, and Internet and Other Electronic Network Activity Information. Participation in a program or benefit is governed by the applicable terms and conditions for the program or benefit, which will also describe the promotion and how to participate.

These incentives are reasonably related to the value of the Personal Information you provide to us. Our good faith estimate of the value of your Personal Information is the value of the program or benefit that we give you, which we have calculated based on our expenses in offering the program or benefit.

Your participation in these programs or benefits is optional, and you will not be enrolled in them unless you choose to participate. You may end your participation at any time by following the instructions in the applicable terms and conditions.
